So things have been a little tougher the past couple months with Madi and Rawley at two separate daycares. Madi goes to the daycare through church, Early Childhood Center. Rawley goes to Heartland Hall. Both are great places I would highly recommend. ECC doesn’t accept infants so when Rawley was born and it was time for me to go back to work we had to find a different daycare for Rawley. He was at Little Lamb just north of Clay Terrace for a while but with the construction up there it took me 45min to get him there and me back to the house to finish getting ready before I took off for work. There wasn’t enough time in the day! I was even getting Rawley out of bed and in his car seat still sleeping, to have him at Little Lamb between 6:45 and 7a. It was not working out. So I found Heartland Hall. I struggled with the tuition cost for a bit but in the end, convenience won. Their security and hiring process is top notch; safety was never a concern. All teachers Rawley had there were highly educated about children’s development. But with two separate daycares that meant “divide and conquer.” Dan took Madi to school and picked her up; I got Rawley. The past few months I’ve been trying to do both and I’m back to the schedule from Little Lamb because it takes at least 45min to make the daycare rounds before heading off to work. We’d put Madi on a wait list at Heartland last Fall when we were getting a little resistance about moving Madi into the 3s class. We didn’t want her repeating 2’s and didn’t feel it was warranted. Rawley was enrolled at ECC for the Fall but I’d put him on a wait list for Summer. ECC called saying they had a family that didn’t end up enrolling for summer so they had a spot for Rawley in the toddler room. Yay! Then after I turned in the two week notice for Heartland they called saying a family was moving so they had an opening for Madi the first week of June. *palm on forehead* You gotta be kidding. I already had Rawley enrolled and tuition paid plus he’s a little more receptive to change right now. Madi’s pretty acquainted with her classmates. After the first couple weeks she went back to being pretty even keel so I didn’t want to jeopardize that. Both at Heartland would’ve been easier for me, more expensive, but easier. However, other than an anticipated increase in separation anxiety, I’m hoping Rawley handles the change fairly well. He hadn’t been in his class at Heartland that long compared to Madi. Only one person knows for sure how this’ll all shake out so the rest of us will have to wait and see.
Today was Day #1 of the new schedule with Rawley’s first day at ECC. He’s been there with me several times during drop-off when I’d take Madi first so it wasn’t completely foreign to him. I had asked Madi on the drive over if she’d give Rawley hugs and kisses if he started to cry. “I’ll love on Rawley.” was her reply. Thanks kiddo! Charity, his teacher, was in the breakfast room when we got there so she came over. I was on my knees giving Madi hugs & kisses with Rawley on my lap. Charity started playing peek-a-boo around Madi and Rawley was giggling. After Madi went to sit down for breakfast I gave Rawley a kiss, said bye bye and I love you. Charity took him, turned him around so he was facing out and not over her shoulder as she walked to the toddler breakfast table. Very smart move! She even sat in a chair with her back to the door and got Rawley interested in a Pop-Tart. It was a perfect goodbye. No tears whatsoever from Rawley. After the screaming matches he’s had lately that was a huge blessing!
I’ll get the update about how the day went tonight and let you know.
