Blood pressure update

Our biophysical profile scan on Wed went great. Our Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor was Dr. Harry. When we were transferred to St. V Women's with Madi he was our doctor until delivery so it was pretty cool to catch up with him. He was shocked to learn that Madi was only in for 12 weeks, didn't have any surgeries and was developmentally on track by 1 year. That's our Miracle Madi! The ultrasound tech their office was a pro, kinda wham-bam, but we saw what was needed. Little guy was super cooperative and he tried breathing, was moving and even flexing right off the bat. She measured the blood flow through the cord and all looked good. We didn't do a nonstress test so out of the 8 points he could score - got all 8! Squirt was head down so we couldn't get a good look at his face but that's alright. She guessed him at 5lb 3oz and his feet are 2.5" long. Those were the only measurements we were given. 5lbs - what a chunk!! Dr. Harry then came in and took a look himself. He made mention of some fluid in the kidneys but said it could resolve itself, probably follow up with an ultrasound after delivery if still present. So the high blood pressure issue is confirmed to be just mine.

We'll have another biophysical profile scan on Monday afternoon. This time it'll be with Dr. Hiett. He was the doc that delivered Madi so our little reunion will continue. :)

Yesterday we had our 2nd check-in appt of the week. I woke up at 2:30a with a pretty nasty headache but wasn't that concerned since my BP reading was alright. Still elevated but not bad. Well....when Monica took it in the office she got 174/110. Yikes! The nonstress test showed Squirt was still doing amazing. Mernitz was concerned with the headache and high BP. Commented that 10% of ladies who don't show signs of high blood pressure still seize. He asked us to go to the hospital and be admitted for a 24-hr observation period. He wanted to get labs again, do a 24-hr urine collection to test for any passed protein and see periodic blood pressure readings. Mernitz thinks we'll make it close to 36 weeks but doesn't want to miss any signs that now might be the time to deliver. I did actually have the hospital bag in the car yesterday but we got a few more things together & accomplished, stopped for lunch and got to the hospital a little after noon. Had to take a quick picture just in case it was going to be the last "pregnancy" photo opp.

Turns out I'm doing just fine. Blood pressures have been below /90 since check-in. Blood work was normal. We have to hang out and wait for the results of the urine screen which won't end til 12:45 so I may have to stay another night. Dan happened to run into Mernitz in the parking lot this morning. Said he had talked to the overnight doc and expected us home, no problems. Sure hope so!

Dan brought Madi by for a quick visit last night between dinner and bed. She spotted the gloves on the wall, pointed and said "gloves" - like we hang out in hospitals and see glove boxes all the time. I think she picked it up from her visits to see Grandma K. We pulled a pair out and got Nurse Madi set up:

She had fun asking me to move the bed up and down too. And then instead of using the regular open top trash can in the bathroom she walks up to the big one in the room, steps on the peddle "hard" and drops her gloves in that can. Yeah Madi that's "hard" cuz it's bigger than you are!! She is so fun to watch and the things she picks up on...blows us away.

It's kinda tough to hear but this is what I listened to most of the night. Little thumper:

Some of it sounds like the armpit farts people can make or a whoopie cushion. It was much clearer in real life but you get the idea, his heart beat.
