You know those weeks, the ones that seem to go on forever, ones where you seem to spin your wheels, ones where you can't seem to catch a break. This week has been that for me.
A week ago what appeared to be a runny nose because of new teeth hinted at being more than that so we started Madi on breathing treatments. Along came news that an aunt in Michigan (all relatives up there are aunts/uncles/cousins - too hard to figure out the correct relation) wouldn't be with us much longer. On the upside, we got our new kitchen cabinets delivered. Downside, self-installation. Madi and I took off for my parents to keep her out of the dust and dirt, especially with whatever was plaguing her breathing. Didn't pack enough wipes, back to our house. Didn't pack the breathing machine, back to our house. News comes that Aunt Glenda passed. Upside, it wasn't on her mother's birthday. Madi sleeps at Nana & Papa's so we could work later/clean up. Dan starts getting sick. Madi's nose dries up but she acquires a cough, stops sleeping real well. Add cough medicine. Nephew Samuel arrives on Monday to make me an Aunt. Mom and baby make it through delivery without extra intervention. Sigh of relief. Tuesday Madi picks up a fever, have to leave work and pick her up. Find out all the kids but Madi have an ear infection plus something else, strep throat, upper respiratory, etc. Add Tylenol to the current cough medicine and breathing treatments. Snuggle with Madi, forgo work. Madi starts hacking and is a little wheezy. Wednesday, drop her off at Pam's as she didn't wake up with a fever. Finish one big project at work, get started on second of three due this week. Pam calls, Madi's temp is 101.7. Leave work a little early, get Madi. Madi's burning up, hacking and clingy. Call the doc, move Madi's 18-mo appt from Friday to Thursday. Wake Madi from a nap to make it to appt. Oxygen level is above 95 but doc doesn't like sounds in her chest. Double breathing treatment in office. Oxygen level goes down. Doc McManus orders a chest x-ray at the hospital as she's between bronchitis and pneumonia. Says some kids with her symptoms and O2 level would be headed straight for the hospital. Thank God for Madi's nothing-stops-me attitude. Go to chest x-ray, wait. Wait some more. Chase Madi down every hallway she could find to keep her occupied. Attempt to hold squirming child for accurate x-ray. Madi's starved and begging for a nap. Finally done, head home. Doc calls - pneumonia.
And it's only Thursday.
