Thursday we went back to the genetic and neurodevelopmental doc for Madi's 4-month check up. This doctor visit looks to make sure Madi's on track developmentally so there's a physical therapy evaluation first and then the doc does his evaluation.
The therapist checked to see if Madi would follow an object from right to left, get anxious when I left her line of sight, grab an object with either hand, sit up, push up when on her belly, notice her hands and feet, transfer an object from one hand to the other and a whole bunch more I'm forgetting. The therapy eval takes about 30 min to test and then score. At one point she wanted Madi to grab a red cube on a tray but Madi wasn't at all interested in her red cube. I grabbed Madi's giraffe, set it on the tray even further away than the red cube and sure enough, Madi leaned forward, picked up the giraffe and pulled it to her mouth. I just smiled and said, she likes the giraffe! On the preemie scale Madi scored 110 out of 100 in cognitive and 124 out of 100 in fine motor skills. Adjusted to 7-months she scored 55/100 which is still really good.
On the preemie charts Madi's at the 95th percentile for weight and length.

Last time she was that "big" Dr. Escobar was concerned she could turn into a fat baby, no such concerns this time. He was surprised to hear she wasn't sleeping through the night yet, tell me about it! He had tons of suggestions to try and convince Madi it was okay to sleep longer than 3 hours. Some of which were contrary to everything we've heard so far. Obviously there are two schools of thought regarding solid foods and sleeping habits. I'm not sure we'll try some of his suggestions but it was comforting to hear "at this point, do whatever you can to get some sleep." Yes sir!!
While we were waiting to be seen Madi discovered the paper on the exam table. She had a blast crinkling it up and playing. It was a slobbery, shredded mess before we even saw the nurse. Cheap toys are sometimes the best right? Of course this doctor's bill isn't cheap but when we get some paper for the house it'll be a cheap toy.
Dr. Escobar was so pleased with Madi's progress that we don't have to go back until 6 months from now.
Today we had a follow up with Madi's pediatric opthamologist and we don't have to go back to see him unless we notice an issue - lazy eye, crossed-eye or something similar. He saw completely healthy blood vessels and nothing of concern so we "graduated" from him as well! Praise God! He continues to bless Madi and our family.
